This article in "The Atlantic" once again reminds us not trust everything we read online. Professor T. Mills Kelley teaches an undergraduate course called "Lying About the Past" at George Mason University. Students in the course take a historical event then fabricate stories around it--going so far as to make fake websites, documents, and Wikipedia entries--in an effort to better understand history and how easy it is to manipulate information. The lesson for teens and adults who use the Internet for research: "On the Internet, where identities are malleable and uncertain, we all might be well advised to err on the side of skepticism."
