Laptop Security

This tip is from an article I saw in the Denver Post on keeping your electronic devices and ID safe. While most of the tips were common sense regarding keeping anything of value safe, the one tip that caught my eye was "Using bells & whistles" with the security for laptops, especially one that has been taken(stolen) from you. It's a "lo-jack" for your laptop: a program that reports the location of your stolen laptop once it's connected to the Internet.

  1. I saw this article and thought it offered several good points. Not only can thieves steal your equipment, but a person's identity can also be stolen. Other suggestions that were made included: 1. Use password protection 2. Keep it off the floor 3. Don't leave it in the car and probably most important 4. Don't leave it "for just a minute".

  2. Hi - I'm not sure the "lojack" security feature really works. My husband's laptop was stolen; this security feature was enabled, but he never got notified about it. (The laptop was recovered some months later, anyway.)
